The Ash Lamp is a variation of our Casita Lamp, and the difference is in the firing. After being formed by hand from red clay by ceramicist Eligio Zrate Blanco in Santa Mara Aztompa, each base is fired in a gas kiln and then placed in a traditional wood-fired kiln surrounded by smouldering sawdust. The resulting blackened pattern on each piece is unique, shaped by fire and position in the kiln rather than by design.
The palm shade is woven by award-winning weaver Beln Perez Garcia, who harvests indigenous palm leaves from the hills near her home in Oaxaca, selecting young leaves for sage green shades and mature leaves for blonde.
The Ash is the more characterful of our two Oaxacan table lamps. It sits well in a bedroom, living room, or on a side table where a sculptural piece with a genuine material story earns its place.
We offer in-person and virtual appointments so you can choose your specific base and shade.
