The Duende Lamp has a round ceramic base and a tall, narrow conical shade – geometric forms that are modernist and playful at the same time. Duende is a Spanish word for elf, but it also carries a harder-to-translate meaning: a quality of spirit and charm.

The ceramic base is formed by hand from red clay gathered from the mountains around Santa Mara Aztompa by celebrated potter Eligio Zrate Blanco, whose family has worked this clay for generations. The tall conical shade is woven by award-winning weaver Beln Perez Garcia, who harvests indigenous palm leaves from the hills near her home in Oaxaca, selecting young leaves for sage green shades and mature leaves for blonde.

The Duende works well as a bedside lamp, on a console, or anywhere a considered object with a distinct silhouette is welcome.
